Avenida Guadalupe's Economic Development Grant

The Avenida Guadalupe Association (Avenida) was awarded a $610,000 grant by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to promote economic development on the westside. The funding will support economic development that will create 43 full-time jobs in the healthcare, retail, and real estate industries. The Avenida Guadalupe Neighborhood is a federally designated Empowerment Zone and a city designated Neighborhood Commercial Revitalization (NCR) district. With this funding Avenida plans to invest in new and existing businesses along Guadalupe Street. The funding will also help restore aging storefronts, erect new signage, construct a 10,000 square foot building for new businesses and establish a commercial kitchen. Avenida is proud to work with a wide range of community partners in our neighborhood, including National Association of Community Asset Builders (NALCAB), Baptist Child and Family Services (BCFS)- Guadalupe Street Coffee, Westside Development Corporation (WDC), Community First Health Plans, Sterling Bank, and the City of San Antonio. For nearly 30 years, the Avenida has worked to create a strong sense of community for the neighborhood (a 3.5 square mile area that is bordered on the North by Commerce Street, S. Laredo on the South, Zarzamora on the West and Frio on the East).

The Avenida Guadalupe Association  hopes this grant will get people excited about our community and increase business opportunities! For more information about the Avenida please call (210) 223-3151.
