Avenida Guadalupe Receives Economic Development Grant
The Avenida Guadalupe Association was awarded a $610,000 grant by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to promote economic development on the westside. The funding will support economic development that will create 43 full-time jobs in the healthcare, retail, and real estate industries. The Avenida Guadalupe Neighborhood is a federally designated Empowerment Zone and a city designated Neighborhood Commercial Revitalization (NCR) district.
Programs
NCR In October 2006, the AGA partnered with the City of San Antonio to initiate the AGA Neighborhood Commercial Revitalization Program (“NCR”). This program is designed to preserve, protect, and revitalize the economic and social fabric of Guadalupe Street, an inner-city corridor in the heart of the Avenida Guadalupe neighborhood.
16 de Septiembre 2008 marks the AGA’s 27th annual diez y seis de Septiembre celebration! The celebration honors Mexico’s Independence from Spain with San Antonio’s largest 16 de septiembre festivities. The event is comprised of an annual gala recognizing deserving individuals and organizations with the AGA “Ernie Award,” the Guadalupe Street Parade, and the Calle Guadalupe Festival held at the historic Plaza Guadalupe.
